What is Hurricane Party?
Hurricane Party is a free iPhone app that helps you find, share, and create last-minute gatherings with your friends. Hurricane Party replaces email chains, voicemails, and confusing group chats with a single place where you can both discover where your friends are going to be today and also let them know your plans for the day. Hurricane Party moves your online experience offline -- making social networking actually social.
What is the inspiration for this?
We were studying emergent systems, which are complex systems that arise out of relatively simple interactions. Hurricanes are such systems: with the right mix of pressure, moisture, and temperature, hurricanes form. One of us made the observation that a party is a sort of emergent system: with the right mix of people, atmosphere, and occasion, a party can form out of nothing! We wanted to make an iPhone app that helps people find and create these “hurricane parties” with their friends.
How much does it cost?
Nothing! Hurricane Party is live and available, right now, FREE on iTunes!
Do you collaborate with any services?
At the moment, Hurricane Party just uses Facebook Connect to jumpstart your experience with our platform. So in order to have the best experience possible, a Facebook account is recommended.
Where does that name come from?
A Hurricane Party is a coastal United States shindig which usually takes place during periods of precipitous weather. However with the name 'Hurricane Party,' we hope to emphasize the natural and organic way that an event can grow and move. Such events shouldn't just be defined by a location. So just like a real party, a Hurricane Party is defined by the will of the group, not the context of a single destination.
